Yeah, I know a hydrogen torch and a couple of xray sources that are “for girls” too.
(Sorry tdl, but why does it always seem that ladyscientists are doing biology?)
I think it’s more telling that it was advertised as a “Lab Technician Set” as opposed to a “Science Kit” or something equivalent. Women could be the helpers, but weren’t supposed to do the heavy lifting.
As for why women are always doing Bio, I’d suggest that nowadays it’s because that particular field is the science with the most ovaries. Whether that’s because of institutionalized bias, self-stigmatization, or some other reason, I leave for you to decide. But putting up a picture of a woman doing Physics would just be bad marketing.
Besides, what does a picture of someone “doing physics” look like?
